Beaches and sunshine – yes, but that’s just one of the many facets of Hawaii. The Aloha State has been associated with celebrity glitz and glamor for decades and continues to this day.
And what about the sports world you ask…?
Look to the golf courses for Hawaii’s brightest golf star. Michelle Wie is making headlines
all over and she’s still a student at Punahou School. Tall and lean,
this fresh Korean-faced superstar is taking the golf world by storm.
Has it really been 10 years? Thousands paid their respects to the late
Israel ‘Iz’ Kamakawiwo’ole as his body lies in state at the Capitol on June 26, 1997.
Over the Rainbow
I hope you enjoy this video of Israel Kamakawiwo ole, the great one, who touched so many lives in Hawaii and all over the world. Kamakawiwo ole was nicknamed “The Gentle Giant” by his admirers. He was described as always cheerful and positive, and he was best known for his love of the land and of the people of Hawaii. Through his consummate ukulele playing and incorporation of other idioms (such as jazz and reggae), Iz remains one of the major influences in Hawaiian music over the last 15 years.
Israel Kamakawiwo ole died on June 26, 1997 – He was 38 years old….
The Maui County Department of Parks and Recreation announced that Kalepolepo Park has reopened after being shut down from all the recent storm damage. Maui County officials did say that the facilities at Kamaole Beach Park II would remain closed, however until further notice. The restrooms and showers are closed due to waterline damages, and the main beach access is closed because of unremoved debris and a hazardous drop-off.
Call me weird, but I really enjoy watching television commercials.
In fact, I am more interested in the commercials during the Super Bowlthan I am in the football game so I’m sure you can imagine howdelighted I was when I was selected to review this vacation rental commercial by the folks at Vacation Rental.org.
Not exactly up to Super Bowl quality, but for a travel blogger like me I can say that the “Unitard” literally me laugh out loud. I think it’s very funny and it really does get the point across about staying in a vacation rental rather than a hotel when traveling.
Sugar Bowl Fever is epedemic in Hawaii as travel agencies are being bombarded with phone calls from desperate Hawaii Warriors fans. Experts, however, are suggesting that fans bypasas the traditional travel agent and make their own plans online instead. Travel packages from Honolulu to New Orleans for the New Year’s Day game ranged from $2,000 to $3,500 per person through travel agents and were going quickly, but ala carte purchasing online might make the trip much more affordable.

Click here for airline, hotel, and rental car quotes from all sources at one time. Explore individual fares and hotels, then compare them to travel agent quotes for a pleasant surprise. Be sure to click through the fare that you are interested in for two reasons.
1) The fares are disappearing quickly and may become unavailable in a short timeframe. You can reserve a fare and hold it for 2 hours in many cases.
2) sometimes a cheaper fare pops up when you click through the original fare – not sure why this is but it happens frequently. Do it yourself and save!!

Where will you be traveling next? Are you planing your next excursion, maybe over the Thanksgiving or
I have a blogging friend who just recently launched an online booking website for Accommodations in Tel Aviv. While I usually blog about Hawaii, my friend says that a visit to the cultural capital of Israel is an absolute must, and that a Vacation in Tel Aviv will make me forget all about my little island in the Pacific.
His pictures are gorgeous and his descriptions of cultural landmarks sound amazing. Maybe I’ll take him up on it…
Now here’s something to consider very seriously when making summer travel plans… Because of the outrageous gasoline prices coupled with airline price wars, it is now cheaper to fly to your destination and rent a car than it is to drive to your destination. It didn’t use to be that way, but it sure is that way now!
Consider a typical family vacation where the family jumps in the minivan for a thousand mile drive (each way) to Walt Disney World. That round trip 2000 miles will cost you $400 – $500 in gasoline, just gasoline, without factoring in the extra costs for food, convenience items, and a hotel at the halfway point.
Now consider the alternative. One way flights to popular tourist destinations like Orlando are still only $100 from most parts of the USA. Why not fly to MCO and rent a car from Advantage at the airport? You’ll save hundreds of dollars on the trip, and you’ll be on Space Mountain in a flash! I like Advantage rental cars because they always seem to have my Sebring convertible available – love the Sebring when in Florida!
